The goal of the Office of Housing Services is to provide on-campus housing for as many incoming students as possible. Although on-campus housing is not guaranteed, we make every effort to accom modate students coming to the campus from outside the New York metropolitan area.
300 incoming students are annually housed in Medical Center housing. Based on space availabil ity across the housing system, a majority of students who receive housing will receive an assign ment to Dorm Housing. A very limited number of assignments are made to Apartment Housing.
Eligibility for Medical Center Housing is limited to full-time matriculated Medical Center Students.Throughout your stay in CUMC campus housing, you must maintain full-time matriculated stu dent status in an approved Medical Center academic program. You will be asked to leave Univer sity housing if your status drops to part-time. October, February graduates have until the end of the month in which they graduate to move out of University housing. May grads must move out by the last day of their contract/lease. May grads who will be continuing at the Medical Center as post-doctoral research fellows or as residents at Presbyterian Hospital may apply to continue in University housing. This continuation is offered for a maximum of one year. Upon approval, post grads occupying single student designated accommodations are re-assigned to campus studio apartments. Individuals occupying student couples housing will maintain their current apartment.
Assignment Priority Structure
Upon receipt, the Office of Housing Services staff date stamps each application. Using the distance each applicant lives from campus, applications are then sorted into one of three distance categories:
Category 1. Students who are coming to the University from outside the United States area.
Category 2 & 3. Students who are coming to the University from the farther areas of New York State. For Example: Florida, Texas, California, etc.
Category 2. Students who live within the Tri-State area are placed in Category 3.
Assignment Process
Review of applications and assignment to University accommodations begins in June for active applications filed in Category 1. Assignments arc made based on the date each student’s application was received and by matching each applicants preference with unit availability.
In the event that there are more Category 1 applications than housing units available, those remaining applicants will be wait listed. Each applicant will be sent information regarding the wait list process and the services offered by our off-campus housing resource specialist.
All applicants living locally (Category 2&3) will be wait listed and will receive similar information.

It is important that you rank all of these housing accommodations. Limiting your selections may significantly limit the ability of the Housing Office to offer you a housing assignment prior to the beginning of classes.
